Mixed Media: Golden Light Landscapes Workshop with local artist Sarah Carrington Join artist Sarah Carrington for an inspiring mixed media workshop exploring the radiant beauty of golden light in winter landscapes. Discover how to capture the soft, glowing light that transforms land and sea at the edge of the day — when the sun dips low, clouds catch fire, and reflections shimmer across the coastline. Using a range of painting and drawing techniques, you’ll learn how to translate the warmth and atmosphere of this fleeting light into expressive, textural works of art. Working with acrylic paint, pen, chalks, and coloured pencil, you’ll explore how colour, tone, and layering can suggest luminosity, movement, and mood. Sarah will guide you step by step through creating glowing skies, reflective water, and dramatic cloud formations, helping you build confidence in capturing light effects and atmosphere. Through demonstrations, personal guidance, and practical exercises, you’ll create several small studies inspired by photographs of coastal scenes, leading to one finished piece that celebrates the golden hues and tranquil beauty of sea and sky in winter light. What to Bring A4 sketchbook or paper (250gsm or heavier) Acrylic paints and a selection of brushes Mark-making tools such as chalks, pens, and pencils Two canvas boards or canvases (max A3) Photos or images of coastal light, sunsets, or glowing skies to work from All materials are available at Bridge Street Art. Boards, easels, and water pots will be provided. Please note: There are stairs to access the venue, so it may not be fully accessible for those with mobility challenges. Workshop Details Maximum participants: 8 Ages: 18+ About the Artist Sarah Carrington was born in Scotland and studied Fine Art at Edinburgh University. Since graduating in 1999, she has worked as a professional artist, specialising in landscape painting and drawing. Now based on the Causeway Coast, Sarah finds endless inspiration in the meeting of land, sea, and sky, and in the ever-changing light that unites them. She exhibits widely across the UK and regularly leads workshops in schools and local communities.
