About
Mary Lou
Mary Lou paints the world she knows — the Glens of Antrim, where rolling green hills meet the sea along Ireland’s North Coast. A self-taught artist with no formal training, her work has an honest, instinctive quality and a direct, unfussy charm.
Her paintings sit comfortably within the tradition of Irish figurative art, with a clear appreciation for the work of Markey Robinson (1918–1999). Bold shapes, vibrant colour and a fondness for everyday characters bring her scenes to life. Women gather beside whitewashed cottages, fishing boats rest in harbour, and familiar moments of rural life unfold with a gentle, nostalgic simplicity.
There is a wonderful sense of warmth and character throughout Mary Lou’s work. Each painting offers a glimpse into a quieter way of life — capturing the people, places and everyday moments that evoke memories of an older Ireland.
Mary Lou’s work is available at Bridge Street Art, Coleraine.
